Before you drill: dry fit
IMPORTANT: before drilling any holes in the boat, “dry fit” your Remote Troll. With some assistance, hold it in place and check: is it square with the boat? Any interference with cables, fuel lines, trim tabs, or the main motor? Will the trolling motor propeller sit deep enough? The cavitation plate should be a minimum of 1–2 inches below the water — more for big water like the ocean or Great Lakes. If you drill holes in a bracket it cannot be returned for exchange, so dry fitting confirms you have the correct bracket first.
Transom installations
Transom brackets are installed with four bolts through the transom. Some transoms are strong enough to hold the Remote Troll on their own; if there is any doubt, use a backing plate on the inside of the transom — any rigid material (aluminum, plywood) that distributes the load. Nuts and washers go on the inside of the transom.
Swim platform installations
Swim platform brackets are installed with four bolts through the platform. Your installation may need a backing plate, and if the platform is not strong enough to carry the weight of the Remote Troll and motor you may need to add support. Drill 3/16″ pilot holes first, then the final holes with a 7/16″ bit. Make sure the motor power cord will reach the transom before drilling the 1 1/8″ hole for the female plug. Snug and seal all nuts.
Attaching the outboard motor
Center the outboard motor over the movable transom of the Remote Troll and lower it until seated. Tighten the motor clamps firmly against the black high-density polyethylene clamping surface, then lock the motor pivot in the centered position per your motor's owner's manual. Always tether the motor to your boat with a safety chain, cable, or strap strong enough to hold it — on the water and when trailering.
